The Northbridge police department is reporting a rabid fox attacked and bit a boy this weekend.

According to police they had received several calls about a fox out of sorts. “We received calls regarding this fox harassing numerous families: a horse, in a chicken coop and attacking a dog,” reported Northbridge police.

“Every time we responded the fox would be gone,” said police.

The fox then attacked and bit a boy working outside in his yard. “The boy’s family was able to fight off the fox and kill him,” said Northbridge police.

Animal Control brought the fox to be tested and it did test positive for rabies.

Northbridge police advised residents, “It is not unusual for these types of animals to be out during the day but if you encounter one stay away. If it is acting strange, foaming at the mouth or aggressive call the police department.”

  1. It’s great that information like this is shared in neighboring communities, but why is it that these reports seldomly (usually never) cite the location of the town where the fox (or any other rabid animal) was cited. At least, that way, residents in that area can be more vigilent while other sections are simply made aware to be on watch for rabid animals..
