Barbara E. (Moroney) Knight, 88 – lifelong resident of Upton

funeral candleUPTON – Barbara E. (Moroney) Knight, 88, of Upton, died Wed., April 22, in St. Camillus Health Center in Northbridge after a period of declining health. Her husband of 56 years, Ernest M. “Pete” Knight, died in 2003.

Mrs. Knight was born in Upton, a daughter of the late John and Claire (McCarty) Moroney and was a lifelong resident. A graduate of the former St. Mary’s High School in Milford, she was a communicant of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in Upton. In family tradition, she worked for the U. S. Postal Service and served as Postmaster in West Upton for many years, retiring in 1987.
Barbara lived her later years with vascular dementia, surrounded by a group of wonderful helpers. She excelled in playing Scrabble, and maintained her excellent character and quick wit until she passed.

She leaves a niece, Sue Usher of Upton, and a nephew, James Usher of Fort Worth, TX. She was predeceased by her sister, Rita Usher, and nephews Paul and J. Thomas Usher.
Funeral services will be held Mon., April 27, from the Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home (uptonfunerals.com), 45 Main St., Upton, with a funeral mass at 10 a.m. in St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 151 Mendon St., Upton. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.

A calling hour at the funeral home will be from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the mass on Monday.
