Press release

At 10:52 AM this morning the Upton Fire Department was dispatched to 45 Crockett Road for a reported dryer fire. This area of Town is outside of the hydrant area. A first alarm assignment of two engines, one tanker, one tower, and a heavy rescue, along with an automatic engine response from the Milford Fire Department was dispatched due to the proximity of the incident to the Town of Milford. On arrival smoke was visible from a single family wood framed house. A Working Fire Assignment was then dispatched that brought an additional engine from Hopedale, an engine from Hopkinton, an engine from Grafton, a tanker from Hopedale, and a tanker from Hopkinton to the scene.

An interior attack was initiated but due to rapid fire growth crews were quickly evacuated from the house. A water supply was established from nearby North Pond and a defensive operation was used to bring the fire under control. Crews then re-entered the house to extinguish remaining fire. An additional engine was requested from Ashland to relieve crews on the scene and an engine from Northbridge covered Upton headquarters during the fire. The State Fire Marshall’s office responded to investigate. The Red Cross was requested to the scene to assist the occupants.

A family of five live in the house at 45 Crockett Road. The house is not habitable and the family was making other arrangements for housing. The main portion of the house sustained significant fire damage estimated at $100,000. One cat perished in the fire. There were no injuries to other occupants or firefighters. The fire appears to have started in a clothes dryer on the first floor.
