Mendon brush fire under investigation

Mendon Public Safety personnel, along with mutual aid from Blackstone, Hopedale, Millville, Uxbridge, Bellingham, and Upton Fire Departments, fought a large brush fire in the wooded area between Providence Street and Lundvall Road. A State Police Air Wing Helicopter, flying over the area, assisted fire command with the size and direction of the fire until the fire was contained. Fire District 7 Forest Fire Warden assisted at the scene as well as Hopedale Police. The fire caused Providence Street to be closed from Cemetery Street to Quissett Hill Road for approximately 4 hours. This was the third fire in a string of brush fires within minutes of each under and at this time is under investigation by the Mendon Police Department and the Mendon Fire Investigation Unit.
