Fleming held on to his win today after the votes were recounted for the Upton selectman seat.

Challenger Frank Aniello requested a recount after losing by 11 votes. According to Upton Town Clerk Kelly McElreath, Aniello had the option to have the ballots run through the machine or be hand counted, Aniello chose a recount by hand.

The recount was held today May 20 at the town hall and after a two-hour process Fleming gained and additional vote; winning by 12..

The official hand count totals are Fleming 570, Aniello 558, and 5 blanks.

Eight official counters were called in, mostly election workers. Upton’s town council, the town clerk,  and three registrar of voters were present. A police detail was required.

Aniello and Fleming were both present for the recount. Aniello had three watchers to make sure each vote was counted correctly.

  1. Actually, Upton’s FOUR registrar of voters were present, as the Town Clerk is also a registrar.
