BOSTON (May 26, 2015) – Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton today announced it has been awarded a $15,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to provide critical medical care for senior and special needs dogs and cats.

Baypath Humane Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing shelter, care, humane treatment, and loving homes for stray or unwanted companion animals. For more than 30 years, Baypath Humane Society has served the community by fostering relationships, promoting education, and making a positive impact on pet overpopulation. Over the years, the shelter has created a 100+ person volunteer network, built a successful animal fostering program, developed a spay/neuter program for stray cats, partnered with veterinary specialists for emergency care, hired a renowned behaviorist, and provided an enriching environment to meet each individual animal’s needs. In 2014 alone, Baypath found homes for more than 1,000 dogs and cats.

The Petco Foundation grant will help to save the lives of critically ill dogs and cats, and give senior and special needs dogs and cats the best chance of being adopted. “It’s heartbreaking to see an animal overlooked due to their age or medical condition. Thanks to the Petco Foundation, we’re able to give those dogs and cats the chance at happiness that they so richly deserve,” said Executive Director Elizabeth Jefferis. “We will be able to make a profound difference in the lives of both our animals and adopters because of this medical grant.”

The Petco Foundation has served as a voice for companion animals across the country since 1999. Today, with more than 8,000 local animal welfare partners across the country, the Petco Foundation donates approximately $15 million a year to make a difference in the lives of millions of animals. The organization is funded through donations raised during fundraisers conducted in Petco’s more than 1,300 stores across the country, as well as from Petco associates, vendors and corporate contributions. Money raised helps fund animal welfare organizations, spay and neuter efforts, animal-assisted therapy programs and humane education. The majority of the funds raised remain in the communities where they were raised, as well as animal welfare efforts nationwide.
