The Grafton and Upton Railroad (GURR) will be moving the two giant propane tanks parked in downtown Milford to their Hopedale rail-yard sometime overnight.
GURR hit a snag on Sunday when the tanks got stuck on Congress Street. The tanks were not able to navigate the turn onto West Street. GURR spokesman, Doug Pizzi, said on Sunday the tanks were parked in Milford as the GURR waited for the shipper and DOT to re-configure their original approved route.
Pizzi said this afternoon, “The state DOT has approved a new route and the tanks are slated to be moved to Hopedale tonight.” Pizzi was not at liberty to disclose the route or what time the move would start.
The Grafton News has reported the giant tanks will take Route 16 in Milford to the main entrance of the Hopedale rail-yard.
Pizzi said the tanks are empty. Another news source had reported the tanks have “some propane” in them. Pizzi said, “That is not the case.”
GURR plans to move the tanks onto the trains as soon as they can. Pizzi couldn’t estimate the time it would take to move the tanks from Hopedale to Grafton on the train. “They will be moving slowly,” he said.

Really inspiring.
