Nipmuc team trio, Kurt Robakiewicz, Brandon Esker and Kevin Hack won the District E Decathlon Team Championship on Thursday June 11 held at the College of The Holy Cross. The team members competed against 140 athletes from all divisions of central Mass which included 21 teams.

After ten events Kurt earned 6048 points, placing him second over all, Kevin earned 5317 points placing him seventh over all, and Brandon Esker earned 4763 points placing him twentieth over all. The team total of 16,128 points earned the three Nipmuc athletes the championship.

“Winning the decathlon was our goal going into it,” said Senior Brandon Esker. “Kurt and Kevin are incredible track athletes, so I knew I had to carry my weight in order to win, and I guess I did well enough in the end,” he said.

This was Esker’s first year on the track team. ” Being able to have Kurt and Kevin lead me and mentor me this whole season has been such a privilege and I know I wouldn’t have had anywhere near as much personal success without their guidance,” he said. “Winning the decathlon was the perfect way to end my short track career, and it’s a great feeling to know that all the hard work I’ve put in this season paid off in the end,” he said.

“Winning the Decathlon as a team felt like an amazing accomplishment,” said Senior Kurt Robakiewicz.  “I was really excited and enthusiastic when it happened, especially because we have such talented athletes on our team,” he said.  “It was a great way to help bring high school track and field to an end, and doing that with Kevin Hack and Brandon Esker was even more of a blessing, two of the greatest athletes I have ever had the pleasure with which to work, compete, and train,” he said.

Junior Kevin Hack said, “Winning the decathlon was the greatest achievement throughout my three years of high school track  because it didn’t take one individuals talent to win the championship but rather all three of us.” Hack said, “Training and competing along side two of  my best friends and favorite athletes was amazing.”

“I just knew from the start with this group we were unbeatable….I’m proud to be a part of this team,” said Hack.

Robakiewicz will be attending Northeastern this fall where he will compete in the triple jump and Esker will be attending Drexel University.
