Boston Mycological Club, under the direction of Jason Karakehian, will conduct a foray in the woods to locate and identify fungi at Daniels Farmstead, located at 286 Mendon Street, Blackstone, MA on Sunday, August 30, 2015. The walk begins at 11 am. Please bring a small basket, a knife, wax paper or paper bags for collecting. Participants should also take precautions against Lyme disease by wearing white clothes, a hat, long sleeves, and pants tucked into boots. Insect repellent should also be used. If you bring children to the walk, please supervise their collecting. Before the walk, club members will briefly discuss what to look for and how to collect a small sample of a mushroom for identification with minimal impact on the environment. The walk will touch upon both edible and poisonous mushrooms, as well as the role of fungi in the ecosystem.
If you can’t make it for the walk, the Farmer’s Market will be open 11am to 3pm including lunch available from the grill. Mushrooms will be on display for identification, any special characteristics, edibility uses, how to identify a sample, along with any interesting peculiarities of a species. There will also be opportunities for questions and answers.
