Baypath Humane Society this weekend welcomed nearly 50 guests to the Grand Opening of its new “Real Life Room” animal enrichment center. On hand to cut the ribbon were Rep. Carolyn Dykema (8th Middlesex District) and Amy Kinne, director of business development at Especially for Pets, a local chain of stores for pet supplies and services.
Baypath supporters and the community at large were invited to attend the event, held Sunday morning at the shelter. “We had a wonderful time introducing guests to our new animal enrichment space. We were able to clearly explain our strategy for the Real Life Room and demonstrate how it will directly benefit animal care and adoption,” says Sandra Gittlen, Baypath Board member and event organizer.
The Real Life Room, a multi-functional modular structure, serves as an enrichment space for dogs and cats that will enable the shelter to help more animals in need and increase their chances of a successful adoption. The project was funded by Especially for Pets Charity Nail Clipping Q1 donations and proceeds from the 2015 Baypath Fur Ball.
“The Real Life Room is an essential addition to our small physical plant,” Gittlen says. “The space will be used to benefit the animals and the humans that care for them. Potential adopters will be able to spend one-on-one time with dogs or cats; trainers will have a safe space to work on dogs’ manners; and cats and dogs will have a quiet area to recover from medical procedures.”
Rep. Dykema spoke about how she adopted her cat Sunny and her dog Dierks from Baypath and could appreciate the need for a larger, calmer space for potential adopters to interact one-on-one with the animals. Especially for Pets’ Kinne presented Baypath with a plaque for the Real Life Room.
