Thousands of Syrians are fleeing their country every day with nothing but the clothes on their backs. They often decide to escape after seeing their neighborhoods bombed or family members killed. The U.N. predicts there could be 4.27 million Syrian refugees by the end of 2015; the worst exodus since the Rwandan genocide 20 years ago.

Nipmuc Freshman Tommy Doyle is assisting in collecting warm clothing and undergarments for Syrian Refugees.

Tommy is working with Upton resident Lara Wahl in collecting needed items. Lara and Tommy are hoping you can find it in your heart to help.

“When I heard Ms. Wahl needed help in collecting the items I knew it was something I wanted to get involved with,” said Tommy.

At first Lara was collecting items from friends and then decided it would be wonderful to open the drive up to the community. Unfortunately she didn’t have a public drop off location.  When Tommy heard this he offered to collect items at Nipmuc Regional High School.

Lara will be helping a local branch of  Helping Hand ship the items overseas from the Boston Port in a couple of weeks.
