Nature Story Hour: Fridays in October, 10:30-11:30
Meets at the Big Red Barn Visitor Center for nature stories followed by a short nature walk and a craft activity. Runs rain or shine, meets upstairs in the barn during inclement weather. Children must be accompanied by adult.
Star Party, Saturday October 17, 7-9 pm
An inspiring evening of star gazing! View the moon and other objects as seen through the lens of a 7.1-inch Macksotof Casregrien Telescope. In event of cloudy weather, event will be rescheduled. Contact phone 401-854-8661.
Tree Walk Saturday Oct 10, Monday Oct 12, 1:00-2:00
Take a look at River Bend Farm’s agricultural past as we identify some common and not so common trees. Take a tree walk around the property to test your tree ID skills, and lend a hand in marking maple trees for spring’s maple sugaring season! Meet at Visitor Center. Easy walk along grassy areas under 1 mile.
Autumn Hike: Fridays in October, 3:00-4:00pm
Let’s get outside and enjoy all the sights, scents and sounds the autumnal changes have to offer. We will hike through different habitats around River Bend Farm, take in the views, and see what wildlife is up to in preparation of winter. All ages welcome, meet at Visitor Center.
Luminary Canal Walk: Saturday, October 17 and 24, 5:30-6:30pm
Join us for a special after sunset event: a lantern stroll at the water’s edge. Listen for wildlife, beware of the will o’ the wisp, hear stories of the past and enjoy the season!
Concert at the Canal, Sunday October 25, 3:30-5:00
Celebrate the fall season, enjoy the performance of the Jesse Fontaine Trio within the rustic Voss Barn! This concert will run rain or shine.
Jesse Fontaine Trio performing. Joining Fontaine in this trio setting is renowned guitarist Joe D’Angelo and bassist Scott Sheehan offering and eclectic blend of classic songs. Learn to fish with Metacomet Land Trust Sunday, October 18 noon- 2:00
Do you or your children want to learn to fish?
Families and residents are invited to a “learn to fish” demonstration at the Blackstone Gorge State Park. No fishing license required for this one day fishing event. Sponsored by DCR and the Metacomet Land Trust. Bring your own fishing equipment or borrow ours–limited equipment is available. Bait will be provided during this free family, friendly event.

At the end of the fishing lesson, Metacomet Land Trust will offer guided walks of the Gorge trails.
