Dorothea (MacLaughlin) Childs, 97, a longtime resident of Upton, died peacefully on January 5, 2016 in Beaumont Skilled Nursing Center in Northborough after a period of declining health. She was the widow of Verne Childs, who died in 1984, and Leo Lamanuzzi, Sr., who died in 1992.Dorothea was born in Milford, a daughter of the late Austin F. and Sarah (Sara) MacLaughlin. She came to Upton in 1934 and had been a hat worker in the West Upton hat industry and a member of the former Upton Methodist Church.
She leaves her brother, Austin R. MacLaughlin of Upton; a niece, Alana Mitchell of TX; a nephew, Mark Turner of FL; and several cousins. She was also the sister of the late Priscilla Turner and Geraldine Law.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 12, at 11 a.m. in the Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, Upton. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
A calling hour at the funeral home will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service on Tuesday.
