Upton Daily – Ups and Downs of Week One

Welcome!

Last Wednesday I jumped in to writing uptondaily. At first I wasn’t sure if I would have enough to publish on a daily basis, so far that hasn’t been an issue.

My biggest ‘downs’ this week are writing and typos. I have no experience writing news based articles, I am learning how to  add quotes and also finding my ‘voice.’ Another down was I let some guy aggravate me when he commented “this blog/website is off to a poor start but what do you expect when this is the same group as protect upton blog.” It got under my skin because I’m not part of any group, I’m a stay at home mom writing a blog about Upton and I believed my posts on GURR have only been news, no opinion. After a few minutes, I took a big breath, thought it’s really not a big deal, people are going to say things I don’t necessarily agree with in the comments section –  it’s part of the business.

‘Ups’ are finding something to publish daily, 3122 views, and finally figuring out most of the basics on wordpress, the site used to publish uptondaily.

WordPress ads on the site have been eliminated. My husband pointed out how annoying they were, so I upgraded my account to get rid of the ads.

I will be making changes to the uptondaily site. Yesterday I added an events and obituary page which are located on the right hand column.

My goal this upcoming week, reach more readers. The more people who read, the more people who will reach out to me with news. This is where you can help me by following the blog, liking the facebook page, following on twitter, and sharing uptondaily with your friends in Upton. Another way you can help is to comment on posts, a post with no comments is like performing to an empty auditorium.  🙂

  1. Hang in Jenn! You are providing a great service to the community and I’ve appreciated your writing. People will interpret things based on their own bias and perspective. Just keep reporting what you see and know your work is appreciated!

  2. Jenn, you’re doing great. And you’re right, no matter what you do you’re not going to please everyone. Personally, I haven’t read anything that seems slanted in one direction or another. So keep on doing what you’re doing, don’t let the naysayers get you down and remember, we all live and learn, or we all SHOULD live and learn.

  3. Jennifer — You are doing a wonderful job! I am amazed at how quickly you picked up all this technical stuff and on the quality of the stories you have written. Every town needs a daily news update like this. While I don’t live in Upton, but in your home town of Bellingham, I read it every day! Kudos!
