Nipmuc Regional High School students once again impressed with their outstanding performance at the DECA State Leadership Conference in Boston. Of the 112 students from Nipmuc High School 15 qualified to compete in the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) over April vacation in Anaheim, California.

Emily Ciantra and Stephen Pihl competed in the project portion of the competition. Their project focused on Pancreatic Awareness, for which they completed a 30 page paper. They also ran a volleyball lock-in fundraiser to raise funds to purchase Pancreatic Awareness Lanyards. They were able to purchase 2000 key lanyards which were distributed to all chaperons,  advisers, participants, and judges during the State Leadership Conference. Emily and Stephen placed second overall in Public Relations.

Christopher Desilets, President of the Nipmuc DECA Chapter, competed in the testing and role playing portion of the conference. For this category participants take two tests; general marketing and business administration. Christopher received the highest score on the general marketing test. He also competed in two role playing scenarios, both of which he obtained high scores. Christopher placed first overall in Sports and Entertainment Marketing.

For the third year in a row Nipmuc Regional High School will have one of their own as a DECA State Officer. Robby Aziz was voted in to the position at the State Leadership Conference. Robby went through screen tests, interviews and was then elected by DECA Delegates to the position. As a State Officer Elect, Robby is invited to attend the International Leadership Conference. Nipmuc Senior, Christopher Desilets, will finish out his term as a State Officer this year.

In order to qualify for the ICDC teams/students must place within the top 4 of their respective business specialties ~ typically competing against up to 100 other teams/students. Nipmuc’s DECA Chapter is very strong and it is not a surprise they have done so well. More than 18,000 DECA members from the United States, Canada and several other countries will attend this year’s ICDC.
