Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury), Senate Vice-Chairman of the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security, announced June 6, 2013 that the committee will host a series of public hearings across the Commonwealth to hear testimony on all legislation that has been filed this legislative session pertaining to firearms. The hearings will begin in June and will continue throughout the summer. The hearings are open to the public.
“With an issue such as firearm safety, it is important to listen to input from the general public,” stated Senator Moore.
“By holding hearings throughout the state, myself, and the committee, hope to encourage citizens who do not normally travel to Boston, to engage and share their diverse opinions on this important issue. We must diligently examine this issue from every angle before creating any laws, and these hearings will help us begin these important discussions.”
The committee anticipates a wide variety of testimony on the over sixty pieces of legislation regarding firearms, that cover a range of issues, such as, gun licensing and regulations, hunting and safety issues.
The first hearing will take place on Wednesday, June 19th at Cape Cod Community College at Noon. The next hearing is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, June 26th at Assumption College in Worcester.
