Youth Baseball Upton Team 2 Wins Memorial Day Tournament

Over the weekend of May 24th – May 27th, Mendon hosted its second annual Memorial Day Tournament for youth baseball.  The tournament consisted of pool play with the top 4 teams making the playoffs.  Teams from Blackstone, Medway, Mendon and Upton participated in both a 9/10 and an 11/12 division.  After losing its first game to the Upton 1 team on Friday night, the Upton 2 team regrouped and went undefeated in the next 3 games to make it to the Final.    In the championship game, both Jackson Bukunt and Will Bruno pitched 3 innings each and went 4 for 4 at the plate.  Overall it was a great team win with Upton racking up over 20 hits including home runs by Griffin Murphy and Myles Kierstead.   In the end the Upton 2 ended up beating the Mendon Blue team by a score of 15 to 10.  This is the second year in a row an Upton team has taken home the 11/12 trophy.

Congratulations to the Upton 2 team, which consisted of: Jason Bates, Cameron Bern, Will Bruno, Jackson Bukunt, Joe Ellero, Anthony Ellero, Myles Kierstead, Max Lucas, Griffin Murphy, John Renk, Tripp Russell and bat girl Julia Bern.  The team was coached by Greg Bukunt with assistance of Steve Bern and Rob Bruno.
