This is as close as I get… Upton Daily needs a press pass – Mendon Lions Club – Kelly Miller Circus

IMG_6965[1]I arrived at the Kelly Miller Circus in Mendon an hour before the show but it was already sold out, I had intended to purchase a ticket and enjoy the show but also wanted to cover the event for Upton Daily. I thought I might be able to get in with the press. I chatted with the Circus about how I  write a local blog and had advertised their event at no cost. I wasn’t looking for a seat, just wanted to grab a few photos and talk it up for the Mendon Lions Club. Nope, no go, I needed a press pass. I explained I was just a small town blog and didn’t have one. Nope, no go. It was a hot night and the lady was a little cranky, who wouldn’t be in this heat. My last hope was to ask to speak with someone from the Lions Club who might know about Upton Daily. Denied, she wasn’t going to point me in the direction of anyone from the Mendon Lions Club. I was told to check back in ten minutes to see if the manager was there, I did stroll by several times and it was just the same lady in the booth. Oh well. I tried.

So I can’t tell you about Ryan Holder’s amazing array of terrifically talented tigers or about the balance wonders of the Rosales Family. But I can tell you the air was pretty ripe in the heat. The line was long for those who had tickets and there were about 50 people hoping the fire marshal would allow Kelly Miller to sell additional seats. The kids who were waiting to get in looked excited. I got some photos of them riding ponies and elephants.

I hope everyone has a good time tonight. As I write this post the show is just starting and a thunderstorm is approaching, I’m glad I’m home. When I am done with post I’ll have to figure out how I get one of those press pass things.

The Kelly Miller Circus will be in Douglas, MA on Sunday, June 30th next to the Fire Department.  Performances will be at 2:00 & 5:00 p.m.

  1. The reason you did not get in is the fact you are a reporter and they have been known to not take very good care of the animals they ship around the country. You should be ashamed it yourself for not reporting and informing others on the treatment of the annals and maybe report why the Mendon Lions Club is sponsoring it. I’m sure you can find something worthy to blog and write about.
