Ups and Downs of Upton Daily

uptondailyOn March 6, 2013 I jumped into writing Upton Daily. At first I wasn’t sure if I would have enough to publish on a daily basis, so far that hasn’t been an issue. In fact, sometimes there are so many events and topics to cover I can’t get to them all.

When I made the spontaneous decision to start blogging I didn’t know what I was doing, or what I getting myself into. To be honest, I still really don’t know what I’m doing, but I’m doing it and having fun.

About a month in to writing Upton Daily I thought I should set some goals. The first question I asked myself was, “When do I know if this blog is successful and  if it’s not when do I end it?”  The answer I came to at that time was a number. I decided if I had 500 followers after 6 months of blogging that would be the start of success and I would continue blogging. Here I am at month 5 of blogging with 468 followers, nearing the goal….but is that the goal I want?

I determined success is not measured by the number of followers. Success to me is meeting the people in Upton; speaking with Joff of Joff’s Junk and learning he worked for 39 1/2 years as a steam engineer, or discovering Robyn Nasuti was able to help a girl scout who was in need raise funds to attend an overseas scout trip. Success to me is the ability let the community know a family whose house was destroyed by a fire needs a place to live. To be the one who finds out if there is love at the Rose Garden. To share images of all the wonderful events around town. I love to write this blog, to me that is success.

I appreciate all the tips, stories, and submissions – THANKS – keep them coming!

Thank you for putting up with my typos and run on sentences.

Most of all thank you for reading Upton Daily!
