Veteran’s Memorial Playground has just undergone a major renovation and will re-open to the public on Thursday, October 31st. To celebrate this occasion, and in particular, the donations of funding and time to build the new play equipment a ceremonial gathering will take place at the playground at 5:00 PM that day at the site.

Jointly the Upton Recreation Commission and the Department of Public Works put together a plan of what would be needed to upgrade the playground with new equipment that meets today’s safety standards. With that plan they sought funding from the Town’s Community Preservation Committee at the Annual Town Meeting in the spring. Upon their recommendation the Town provided $67,775 for the project, to which they challenged other town groups and residents to contribute funds as well. Eight different groups or residents contributed a total of $24,403 that went towards the cost of equipment and the safety chips spread under the entire area. Also integral to opening the playground was the efforts of a number of volunteers to put the equipment together.

Prior to the Fire Department Halloween parade stepping off from the playground parking lot at 5:30 PM that night we will gather at 5:00 PM to celebrate the refurbished playground, and thank the following groups for their valuable contributions:

Cook Company, Inc.

Software Quality Consulting, Inc.

Red Rock Bar and Grill

George J. Summers Trucking

Aggregate Express, LLC

Upton Youth Cal Ripken Baseball
