Stephen Poirier selected as State finalist in the Veternas of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy Scholarship Contest

flagThe George L. Wood VFW Post is thrilled to announce Stephen Poirier has been chosen as a state finalist in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy Scholarship Contest.

The VFW’s Voice of Democracy is dedicated to promoting patriotism among our nation’s youth. Students were asked to submit an essay in response to a question or statement on a subject which prompts them to consider how democratic ideals and principals apply to their lives. This year’s Voice of Democracy theme asked students to explain, “Why I’m Optimistic About Our Nation’s Future.”

The national winner will receive the $30,000, T.C. Selman Memorial Scholarship Award.

Stephen Poirer has made it past both the local and district level and has been chosen as a state finalist. On  Saturday  January 12 Stephen will attend a banquet at the Doubletree Hotel in Milford where the winners will be announced.  Commander Joe McMahon and Quartermaster  David Kennedy will be attending the event in support of Stephen.
