Fire breaks out on 2nd floor of Howarth Drive home

Today at approximately 1:50 p.m. the Upton Fire and Police Departments responded to an automatic alarm at 40 Howarth Drive.

“While responding we received a  call from the homeowner reporting a fire on the 2nd floor. On arrival we confirmed a fire in the 2nd floor bedroom,” said Upton Fire/EMS Chief Ron Goodale.

The family was able to get out of the home without injuries. .

Westborough, Grafton,  Hopedale and several members of the Upton Police Department assisted.

“Our crews did an excellent job getting to the fire and extinguishing it quickly minimizing damage to the home,” said Chief Goodale.

Damage is estimated at $25,000.

Chief Goodale said, “It appears the fire may have started in a malfunctioning appliance.”

No injuries were reported.
