Muradian defeats Craig – 9th Worcester State Rep. race will be (D) Green vs. (R) Muradian

David Muradian defeated Shawn Craig in the state primaries on Tuesday, 1,296 to 958  based on the unofficial numbers gathered from polling stations in Grafton, Upton and Northbridge. Winning today’s primary places David Muradian on the ballot as the Republican challenger against Democrat Marty Green in the Nov. 4 state election.

Voter turn out was low in Upton as anticipated by  Town Clerk Kelly McElreath who was spot on with her prediction of 850 voters,  exactly 850 Upton residents made the trip to Nipmuc High School to cast their votes.

Craig took his hometown of Upton with 343 votes to Muradian’s 150.

Muradian took his hometown of Grafton with 697 votes, Craig 224.

In Northbridge, Muradian had 449 votes, Craig 391.

Muradian, who was Rep Peterson’s Aid, ran a successful campaign thanks to Peterson’s popularity and endorsement. Muradian  also had endorsements from Governor’s Councillor Jen Caissie, Assistant Minority Leader George Peterson, Worcester County Sherriff Lew Evangelidis, every Republican State Representative in Worcester County, Gun Owners’ Action League, and the New England Police Benevolent Association, Inc., as well as Northbridge Selectman Dan Nolan and Grafton Selectman Bruce Spinney.

It will be a tough battle between Muradian and Green. Although both men have some experience in Government, Muradian as Peterson’s Aid and Green as a Northbridge Selectmen, both will be considered newbies on Beacon Hill.

Green ran uncontested in the primary and has been endorsed by James McGovern for State Rep. Green is a resident of Northbridge, a father of two, and operates a full service real estate company and property management company.  He also served as the Executive Director of the Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce.
