Upton Recreation Director Resigns

uptondaily1pngLast week Mary Cortese resigned from the position she held for the past 6 years as Upton’s Recreation Director. Mary said she decided to resign due to a  “change in the climate in the Town and it’s management” since she originally took the job.  Until the position is filled Town Manager Blythe Robinson or the Rec-Com Chairman Rich Gazoorian will be handling any issues which come up.

Mary said it was time to move on to other exciting opportunities. “The Recreation opportunities in our great town are more numerous and well rooted. I can move on with a smile and a sense of accomplishment.  I have done what I have set out to do; that is to create a Recreation Directors position,” she said.

Mary advised her staff she is grateful for the cooperation, enthusiasm and support she received during her tenure, if it wasn’t for them the programs would not be what they are today.

Mary will be greatly missed.

  1. “change in the climate in the Town and it’s management”

Interesting, I hear this more and more from people who work for the town.

    1. Yes, I’ve also heard the same comments that Mary C made. The town seems to be micro-managing its people and groups to the point that they can’t stand it anymore.

  2. Mary has done so much for Rec Com and has truly made the program, the rich offering that it is today. We will miss her leadership. Thanks for everything Mary!! xoxox
