Don’t panic… it’s only EBOLA

opinionWhat are your thoughts on how Ebola is being handled? Would you be in favor of a travel ban from infected areas?

This outbreak of Ebola is like nothing the world has seen. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) as of October 12, 2014 there have been 8997 cases of Ebola (5006 of those cases laboratory confirmed) resulting in 4493 deaths. The death count has doubled since September. The virus has reached America for the first time and this is the largest and most deadliest outbreak since the disease was discovered in 1976.

Americans were first told don’t panic Ebola will never reach our border. Now the message has changed to don’t panic the dangers of a serious outbreak are extraordinarily low. The question is what does the government consider a serious outbreak.

Why is a travel ban or partial travel ban “off the table”? Couldn’t flights be chartered for healthcare workers and supplies for those in Africa? Why hasn’t there been discussion on a quarantine of anyone who travels from an infected country into America?

What are your thought?

  1. I think those infected and potential family members or others placed on watch due to potential exposure should be quarantined for the 20 day “incubation period”. I also feel a ban with some exceptions made by the State Department upon request and review would not be excessive. Just imho
