HOPEDALE – Jon Delli Priscoli, owner of the Grafton and Upton Railroad, announced that the railroad will make way for the Polar Express to ride the G&U rails during the coming holiday season.

“The railroad is the perfect setting for this time-honored family tradition,” Delli Priscoli said. “It will be a great way for people from the area to celebrate the holiday season.”

The Polar Express ride to the North Pole is based on the beloved children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg and the popular movie starring Tom Hanks.  During the one-hour ride north to Upton and back, actors will read the story while hot cocoa and cookies are served.  Santa Claus will also visit the train and give a small gift to each child on the ride.

The Polar Express will leave the G&U yard in Hopedale twice per day on Friday and Saturday (4:30 pm and at 6:30 pm.)  Sundays will only have 1 train which will be at 4:30. Due to EXTREMELY high demand a train at 6:30 on Sunday November 30th, and Sunday December 21st has been added.

The season will be November 28 through December 21.

Ticket prices will range from $36 to $56 . Access to the yard off of Fitzgerald Drive will be from Mendon Street (Route 16).

Tickets can be purchased now by calling (508)866-8190

  1. Are they offering local residents, Upton specifically, a discount as a sign of good will to the folks who have been inconvenienced by the day to day of the train yard?
