According to the Town Manager’s report the Town has received word from the Grafton & Upton Railroad that the process to install upgrades to four railroad crossing in Upton is moving forward.  The State DOT has asked the Railroad to provide them with a schematic grade crossing plan for each crossing.

The crossings to be upgraded are located on Williams Street, Maple Ave, Hartford Ave South, and Pleasant Street.

The Senate passed a bill authorizing approximately $13 billion in capital spending over the next five years to fund improvements to the Commonwealth’s transportation system earlier this year. Two million was granted for the Town of Upton, along with the towns of Grafton, Hopedale and Milford, for railroad crossings.

The grant pays for 90 percent of the cost and according to the Town Manager’s report the Grafton & Upton RR will pick up the remaining 10 percent.

The important safety equipment will be installed with no out of pocket costs to the Town.
