Overnight, according to the Upton police, a car went off the road and drove across the lawn of the Upton Library striking two air conditioning units. The car then crashed into the abandoned building next to the library. Police report occupants fled the scene.
Upton Police Chief Bradley said the operator of the vehicle, Benjamin Nix, 21, of Framingham, was charged with negligent operation to endanger, leaving the scene of property damage, failure to stay within marked lanes, and open container of alcohol.
The police are requesting anyone who may have observed any suspicious activity or witnessed the crash to contact them at 529-3200.
Individuals named do not indicate or imply a conviction. Those appearing on this report are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
