URI student Richard Melpignano of Mendon inducted into engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi

uriKINGSTON, RI (12/23/2014)(readMedia)– The University of Rhode Island chapter of the engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi inducted new members at a ceremony on Dec. 9. Fifty-two junior and senior students, representing all eight engineering programs at the University, were inducted, including Richard Melpignano of Mendon, MA.

Founded in 1885, Tau Beta Pi is the nation’s largest engineering society and represents the highest honor to be obtained by an engineering student. Membership is awarded on the basis of high scholarship and exemplary character.

The University of Rhode Island’s pioneering research extends the University’s influence well beyond its coastal borders, while its unique interdisciplinary courses provide its 16,637 undergraduate and graduate students with global opportunities in an intimate environment. In May 2014, more than 3,000 undergraduate and about 680 graduate degrees were awarded. The University now has more than 115,000 alumni worldwide.
