Upton Daily loves when readers comment and encourages readers to comments.
Unfortunately comments with links and images are either automatically sent to spam or removed. This includes comments with links to businesses, facebook pages, other sites, embedded images, etc. Occasionally a link/image gets through; I’m not sure why – probably a fluke with wordpress.
The policy stops web crawlers from posting all types of spam in the comments. You would be surprised how many comments are automatically sent to spam/trash on a daily based on this default setting.
When a comment with a link/image is not allowed through the system the person who wrote the comment is not informed. The comment is simply not put on the site or removed by me if it gets through.
I prefer the policy because it takes the decision of what is spam, what isn’t spam out of my hands. No links, no images, etc.

I installed the “Akismet” plugin to keep the spam out. Works great.
