Bailey’s love of kibble leads her home

Bailey is happy to be back with her sister Maggie

Little dogs are known to travel in a 1 mile radius from where they left.  They typically circle the area.  When Upton Daily wrote to the community for help finding Bailey, one of my neighbors left a comment under her picture stating the last place she was spotted.  I read that comment at 2:00 AM (hard to sleep when you are missing a best friend).  Since it was cold and rainy during the day, the dog officer “Mike” thought she would not come out and just “hunker down”.  I went with that thought thinking she didn’t get far since the sighting and drove to the address (at 2:00 AM.  Dogs travel at night when it’s quiet and she was probably very hungry). I called for her and listened—nothing.   So I took a bowlful of kibble and dropped one kibble at a time leading to my driveway.  I left her pee pad that was soiled, out by the driveway hoping she would smell that and recognize the smell.  The kibble led to the open garage and there she was at the door waiting to come in.  The kibble was gone.  So I guess she ate her way back!  We are thrilled with this happy ending.  Here is her picture with her sister “Maggie”.  They were told to smile pretty for this picture and here is their pose.  Thank you Jennifer, Upton Daily, and the caring community!

  1. I am THRILLED she is home. I passed her on Mechanic St and knew she didn’t belong out by herself. I stopped my car and called to her, she bolted. Came home and called my neighbor thinking it was his dog, it wasn’t. Later in the day I went outside and there she was sitting on my deck. Again I tried to reassure her that she was welcome but off she went again. She either was hiding under the carport, the garage or in the barn. Searched for her again before going to bed but to no avail. I am glad you left a trail for her from my driveway. WHAT A HAPPY ENDING!!!!!!
