Southwick’s Zoo opening for their 50th season April 11

Animal lovers can look forward to Southwick’s Zoo opening for the 2015 season on Saturday, April 11. Visitors will be able to see many of their favorites including tigers, lions, chimps, rhinos, and giraffes. A few species may remain off exhibit until warmer temperatures arrive, however guests who purchase general admission at the zoo during the first week, April 11-17, will receive a pass for a return visit before June 30.

Southwick’s Zoo is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with a number of special events throughout the summer. The first anniversary event, The Golden Zoobilation, is scheduled for June 28 and will feature special presentations and activities throughout the zoo. Additional events include Celtic Cool on July 11, Sounds of African on August 15, and Harvest Festival on September 12. The annual EARTH Bash will also be held on Saturday, June 20 this year. Visitors this year will also notice areas of construction within the zoo. Southwick’s is currently in the process of building a new restaurant anticipated to open in 2016. The always popular red bat’s house will also be renovated along with some special additions.

It’s going to be an exciting year for Southwick’s Zoo with so many exciting things to look forward to. It’s more than just a zoo…it’s an adventure!
