Bear visits Uxbridge backyard

Kaytlyn Mclaughlin of Uxbridge spotted a bear in her backyard today.

“There was a rather large bear behind my house this afternoon on East Hartford Ave,” said Kaytlyn. This was just a few houses up the hill from Tri River and Riverbend.

Katlyn said she couldn’t tell if the bear was black or dark brown.

“It was quite large and was in a wooded area about 20 feet from my shed,” she said.

According to Mass Wildlife Black Bears are becoming increasingly common in Massachusetts and are moving further to the east. Click here for additional information on Black Bears from Mass Wildlife.

Editor’s note: If you see the bear, don’t chug a jug, grab a hatchet, and go all Daniel Boone on it.

  1. I seen a large black bear crossing 146a in Uxbridge today just south of 146. The state police Uxbridge police and the environment police where about 300 yards north of where the bear crossed.
