On June 24 2015 Mendon announced the Town Beach was closed due to a failed water quality test for E-Coli.
Around noon today (6/25) the Town received the results of the most recent water test and were able to reopen the beach. According to Dan Byers who is one of the Mendon Park Commissioners, levels are back around 70MPN; safe limit is 235.
Mendon Selectman Mark Reil said, “I think it’s important to note that the test was done after heavy rains which tends to wash a lot of sediment into the lake. Now that the sediment has settled after the rains the bacteria counts are low.”
“The lake nipmuc association does testing on the lake and has found the lake to be considerably clean and has improved drastically over the years. I can say that I feel very comfortable swimming in the lake,” said Reil.
Mendon Town Beach asks resident to follow them @MTB_Status on Twitter for current beach news and more information.
