Upton Man Wins $1M on a Scratch Ticket

A unique retirement plan has made Raymond Hazell of Upton the tenth $1 million prize winner in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s“$4,000,000 Gold Bullion” instant game.

For many years, Hazell put aside $10 to $15 from each of his paychecks to create a nest egg that he would use to play the Lottery upon his retirement. Using money from this source, Hazell purchased his lucky ticket at Hopkinton Wine & Spirits, 77 West Main St. in Hopkinton. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale.

Happily retired, Hazell chose the cash option on his prize and received a one-time payment of $650,000 (before taxes). Hazell refrained from telling anyone about his good fortune until after he received the check in his hands. After claiming his prize, Hazell’s plan was to greet his wife Elizabeth with a dozen red roses and a bottle of fine champagne along with his grand prize winning check. Hazell intends to use his winnings to pay off the mortgage on their summer home and to make home renovations.

One $4 million prize and five additional $1 million prizes are still available in the “$4,000,000 Gold Bullion” $10 instant game.
