WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA) released the following statement in response to the statement by Donald Trump calling for a “complete shutdown” on entry to the United States for all Muslims.
“Our nation was founded on the fundamental belief of freedom of religion and we welcome and respect people of all faiths.
“Now more than ever, Americans must stand united. We must reject the dangerous ideas of those who seek to divide us. A policy that stigmatizes and isolates Americans of any faith makes us weaker, not stronger. It is beneath the vision and values of our founding fathers, the country they fought to create, and the Constitution that is the living embodiment of those ideals.
“We are better than this and I urge all of our leaders, Democrats and Republicans, to come together to say with one clear voice that this is not who we are as a nation.”

Unfortunately The Congressman doesn’t understand the U.S. Constitution doesn’t apply to, nor is it an entitlement to be given away to, persons who are NOT U.S. Citizens, especially those who seek to infiltrate this country to cause harm to us all. If there are Muslims who are citizens they have a right to be here. Non-citizens do not have that right nor are they entitled to that right. The Congressman should take a historical step back, and review what his fellow Democrat President Carter did during the Iranian Hostage Incident.
