State Representative David K. Muradian, Jr. (R-Grafton), officially announced this week that he will be seeking re-election to the Massachusetts House of Representatives for the 9th Worcester District of Grafton, Northbridge and Upton.
“I find it hard to express in words the honor it has been to serve and represent the Towns of Grafton, Northbridge and Upton in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.” stated Representative Muradian. “We have accomplished so much in this past year alone, but there is still quite a bit of work left to accomplish. I hope through my efforts I have earned your trust and support for a second term.”
During his service in the House of Representatives, Muradian has been a fierce advocate for his district, ensuring that much-needed local aid makes it way from the Commonwealth to the district, while still advocating fiscal responsibility and economic development. Representative Muradian’s tireless efforts on behalf of his district, especially during the FY16 budget negotiations, have ensured that local schools and transportation receive their fair share of funding.
As a member of the powerful Joint Committee on Transportation, Representative Muradian is well placed to advocate for all of Worcester County to ensure that the Commonwealth’s transportation infrastructure is working efficiently and safely. His presence on this Committee ensures that the interests of the 9th Worcester District, as well as Worcester County, are strongly represented.
“Knowing that the House leadership has instilled their trust in me to be on two important committees shows their confidence in my abilities,” stated Representative Muradian. “Being able to serve on both the Transportation Committee, as well as the Committee on Higher Education, allows me to advocate for the specific demands of Grafton, Northbridge and Upton, and the Commonwealth as a whole. Within this first year, I am proud to say that I have successfully advocated to secure almost $8 million dollars in additional funding to come back to our district. Taking an active stance on curbing the opioid epidemic has been a top priority of mine, and I am proud to have helped pass fentanyl trafficking legislation.”
To continue to bring fiscal accountability and transparency to Beacon Hill was also a campaign commitment from Representative Muradian. Looking at a budget deficit of over $750 million dollars for FY16, Representative Muradian assisted in passing a balanced budget, that did not include a single tax increase, nor a depreciation of services, yet did see increased local aid.
“Another issue I ran on throughout my first campaign was raising the Earned Income Tax Credit for low-income families that qualify. I am pleased to say that through working with the Governor, legislature and administration, we have increased that tax credit. While it is not the full amount that I hoped, it is still a step in the right direction. This is evidence that my work is just beginning, and I hope that I am honored to receive your support to continue these efforts.”
Representative Muradian has also placed a high value on serving his constituents directly in his first term. Through the use of constituent outreach and open lines of communication, Representative Muradian’s office provides exemplary service to anyone who contacts them. He holds regular office hours throughout the district where citizens are invited to simply walk in and meet face to face to discuss any issue that is of concern to them. Representative Muradian can also be found at most local events and regularly attends local meetings, as well as accepting most invitations throughout the district.
“I know that without the support of the people of the 9th Worcester District, I would not be in the State Legislature and in that spirit, I have worked tirelessly with my staff to make sure that my office provides the most excellent service possible,” Representative Muradian said. “My top priority, beyond anything happening in State House, is making sure that any constituent who contacts my office is treated with respect and given the best possible care. Each time a citizen contacts my office, my staff and I make sure that their concerns are met with an open ear and work begins immediately. I have taken great pride in being your full-time legislator and know that if I am given the opportunity to continue to serve, my effort will always be the same. Again, I am truly honored and humbled to be the State Representative of the Ninth Worcester District, and I hope that I can earn your support throughout my re-election bid.”
David K. Muradian, Jr., served for 7 years as Director of Local Affairs for his predecessor, George N. Peterson, Jr and was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2014. As a member of the Republican House Delegation, he serves as the Ranking Minority Member on the Joint Committee on Higher Education and the Assistant Ranking Member on the Joint Committee on Transportation. He lives in the Town of Grafton with his wife Jessica.
