Nipmuc’s Boys Outdoor Track Coach Richard Auger was recently recognized by the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association (MSTCA) as the Central Mass Outdoor Track Coach of the Year for 2015. Auger will be recognized at the 10th Annual MSTCA Awards Banquet at Lantana’s in Randolph, MA on June 5th.

Nipmuc Athletic Director Christopher Schmidt said this award exemplifies who Auger is as a coach, but more importantly, a person. “Having only known Coach Auger for a short period of time he is devoted to his student-athletes and the sport of running. Coach has a genuine love for running and helping to develop future runners,” said Schmidt.

Kevin Hack’s family took a moment to share some kind words about Coach Auger.

“I have had the pleasure of watching Coach Auger work with my three sons over the last 10 years.  His positive approach and outlook taught my boys several important life lessons: how to lose with pride and how to be a true team player while succeeding as an individual.  The athletes on Coach Auger’s teams have always exhibited great sportsmanship and embraced competition in a very positive way.  He has taught these athletes to respect themselves, each other and their peers.  No matter where the team finished, Coach encouraged all athletes and rewarded them for their efforts.

Coach has shared many of his life stories with his athletes and they love that aspect about him. He is an open, honest man who has not only become a good friend to my sons, but a great coach and person that they can look up to.  After the sudden loss of his son a little over a year ago, Coach never missed a beat.  His heart was clearly broken, but he put the team first and continued to guide the athletes to be the best competitors they could be.  He leads with compassion, strength and integrity.  He recently advised my son, Kevin, that he is planning to take some courses to help improve his knowledge of different events, in an effort to foster the development of future athletes.  What a great statement for my son to hear from a person who has been coaching almost his entire adult life.” Christopher Hack

In addition to Outdoor Track, Coach Auger also coaches Nipmuc’s Cross Country and Boys Indoor Track teams.

Congratulations!
