Letter: Picard Announces Candidacy For Reelection

letterFebruary 20, 2016

Dear Upton Resident,

I am writing to announce my candidacy for reelection to the Upton Board of Selectmen and I ask for your vote. I have lived in Upton 47 years and my family has benefited from the services and rural setting which our community enjoys. While growing up in Upton I participated in scouting, baseball, and a litany of other activities. As an adult I helped to organize the youth soccer program in our community, I have coached lacrosse, and have a history of participating in our local government.

My purpose in seeking reelection to the Board of Selectmen is simple. I enjoy participating and contributing to the development of our community. I believe that public service is incumbent on all of us. It does not need to be a career but instead, something we all contribute. Your elected representation should be credible, responsive, and act professional.  During my 20 years of public service, I have been an advocate of continuous improvement and change.

The Board should make decisions based on facts, data, and logic even when these decisions are unpopular with some.  The Board’s behavior sets a tone for the Town. I believe that through teamwork results can be achieved. An individual selectman needs to understand that effectiveness is not achieved by individual action, but by a Board of Selectmen acting in collaborative fashion.

As your Selectman I will continue to strive for transparency, accountability, value, and excellence in all that your local government offers you, be it services provided or decision making.  As a public official I believe we need to do things correctly, we also need to do the right thing.

I ask for your vote at the Monday, 02 May 2016 election and look forward to continuing our journey together. I encourage anyone with questions or comments to email me at kepicard@gmail.com

Sincerely

Ken Picard
