Members of Nipmuc’s DECA organization are advancing to the State Competition March 10-12 at the Marriott Copley Hotel in Boston, MA

What is DECA? A business-oriented national organization which  provides its members with an idea of how things work in the world of business and finance.

On January  8 students competed at DECA Districts. Each individual or team took a test and participated in a role playing scenario with judges to demonstrate their presentation and problem solving skills. Topics range from Buying and Merchandising to Personal Financial Literacy. Twenty-one Nipmuc students qualified to compete at the State Competition.

“This year was as challenging as ever,” said Nipmuc DECA Coach and business teacher Ryan Cody. “The number of competitors increased and the number of qualifiers for each category was lowered,” he said.  In previous years the top seven competitors/teams would advance. “This year that number was lowered to five.” he said.

“We had a solid overall showing,” said Cody. “Gary Parres and I are very proud of their competitiveness, professionalism, and behavior.  They represented Nipmuc as well as possible,” he said.
Below are the students who qualified at the Divisional level to move on to States. They will be joined at States by Nipmuc DECA students who compete in the project categories; students who enter a project category autmatically qualify for States.
