NOTICE: Water Main Flushing

hydrantflushingThe Town of Upton Water and Wastewater Division has begun its water main fall flushing program. Flushing will take place between 7:00 A.M. – 3 :00 P.M., weather permitting and should be completed around May 8th.   Click here to view the schedule

The purpose of water system flushing is to verify the safe operation of hydrants and valves; to remove accumulated sediment or mineral buildup in the pipes; to flush stale water from dead end streets; to help maintain a proper chlorine residual through the system and continue to supply customers with quality water.

The water flushing may result in temporary discoloration of the water, as well as a possible reduction in water pressure. The water discoloration does not pose any health risk, but may cause staining of laundry and plumbing fixtures. Therefore, please avoid doing laundry during the noted flushing period and certainly while any such conditions exist.

Prior to doing laundry, please check your cold water for any such discoloration. If discoloration does exist in your cold water, allow the water to run for a few minutes. If the water does not clear, allow a little time and retry. Unfortunately, the Town cannot guarantee washing laundry and/or the possibility of discoloration as the water system has been disturbed. Therefore, please check your water carefully before use.

The Upton Water and Wastewater Division appreciates your patience as we work to deliver clean drinking water to your homes. If you would like any further information, please call the Water and Wastewater Division at (508) 529-3993 or the DPW office at (508) 529-3067 .
