A blood drive in honor of Jacob Westbury will be held on Thursday, May 19 from 2-7 p.m. at St. Gabriel’s in Upton.
Jacob was 17 when he was on his way home from BVT and was involved in a car crash that ultimately took his life.
Prior to the accident, Jacob told his mom he believed in organ donation. “He had expressed to me and his girlfriend that if something were to happen to him that he wanted to be an organ donor. We honored his wishes and Jacob saved the lives of 5 people,” his mom Heather Westbury said.
“It is important for me to continue to honor my son and what better way than to honor him with a few local blood drives?” she said.
Heather scheduled three blood drives, the first was at BVT which was closed to the public, the second was in Sutton, and the third will be held at St. Gabriel’s.
“I have been telling everyone that donates that they are now someone’s hero,” she said.
There are only 11 appointments to fill for Thursday’s event. Wouldn’t it be a great way to honor Jacob if Upton can fill all the time slots?
If you are able to donate contact the American Red Cross at 800.733.2767 or call Heather at 508.365.7139.
