The Milford Daily News is reporting a Hopkinton kindergarten student enrolled in Center Elementary School brought a 4 inch toy gun to school and was given a half day in-house suspension. The student’s mother is appealing the suspension.

The school overreacted. The toy should have been confiscated and returned to the Mother. The school should have contacted the mother to let her know what was going on and let her discipline (or explain) to the boy.
A week or two later (after the memory of the event had passed from the minds of the class), the teacher should have presented, to the class, the rules regarding guns and the reasoning behind them – without mentioning any names or even referring to the original event.
