Brush fires continued to be an issue this spring due to the exceptionally dry conditions. Milford battled three separate brush fires yesterday; the largest one was over eight acres, Upton was one of 8 towns to assist.

In addition to assisting Milford, at approximately 1:50 p.m. yesterday a fire was reported at 75 Church Street, Northbridge. When the fire department arrived two building were burning, 75 Church Street and the one behind it, 35 Cross Place. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to a third building. One firefighter was taken to the hospital for what appeared to be heat exhaustion and another was treated at the scene for asthma, both are expected to be fine. The fire has displaced 12 families and the Red Cross will be helping the 31 people with food, clothing and shelter. Upton was one of ten towns to assist in the extinguishing of the fire
