64 GALLON RECYCLING BARRELS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE

trashThe Upton Board of Health has announced they will be ordering wheeled recycling barrels for residential use.

The barrels are similar to the durable Upton trash barrels in design. The barrels will hold 64 gallons of recyclables (the current barrels for trash are 96 gallons) and have the capacity to hold four times as much as the original issued recycling bins. The barrels will have a lid to prevent recycling from blowing onto streets.

The cost for residents to purchase the barrel is at a reduced contract rate of $42.34, which must be prepaid before an order can be placed. Deadline to purchase the barrels is October, 11.

Purchases can be made by contacting Diane at the Upton Board of Health office or by mailing a check or money order in the amount of $42.34 to the Upton Board of Health, 1 Main Street, Box 3, Upton, MA 01568 to order your barrel.

Barrels will need to be picked up by the resident at the DPW garage upon delivery.

For more information, call the BOH office at 508-529-6813.

  1. I picked up the new recycling bin today. I have a question. The bar that is supposed to go in the two holes in the front of was loose inside the bin and I have no idea how to get back in. Is the bar needed for the truck to pick it up?

    1. Rob,

The trash company (Harvey) doesn’t appear to need that bar. I have one of the ew bins another used the same method they use for the trash bins – a claw-like device that grips the bin on the sides…

  2. Just a note about the recycling bins – the town needs to have a minimum of 100 people sign up to purchase these bins. If we don’t get a minimum of 100 orders, the company providing them will not honor the reduced price and we will not be able to get them. If you are interested in getting one of these new recycling bins, bring a check over to Board of Health office ASAP. If we don’t get enough orders by the deadline (currently Oct 11th), everyone’s check will be returned.

The Board of Health applied for a state grant for these bins. The grant was not accepted because there are towns that recycle less than we do and the state wants to provide incentives for those towns to do better. As a result, the only way we can get these bins is to pay for them ourselves. And lastly, these bins are much stronger than the current blue bins we have been using so they should last a long time.
