Upton Men’s Club Donate Portable Radios to Upton Schools Providing Direct Contact with Upton Police/Fire/EMS Dispatch

uptonmensclubThe Upton Men’s Club recently made a donation to the Upton Police Department in order for the Department to purchase three portable radios. The radios have been placed in the administrative areas of each of the three Upton Schools; Blackstone Valley Technical High School, Nipmuc Regional High School and Memorial School.

Upton Police Chief Bradley wrote in an email, “The radios will allow school administrators direct communication with dispatch and officers (police and fire) in the event of an emergency.”

Upton Selectmen member Robert Flemming took a moment to recognize the Upton Men’s Club at the October 15th meeting. Flemming said “They (the radios) are for immediate contact with the police in case of an emergency. This eliminates the need for a telephone or getting to a phone. We owe the Mens’ Club a thank you.”

Superintendent Dr. Maruszczak wrote in an email, “I would like to sincerely thank the Upton Men’s Club for once again, all of their great work in supporting the students and staff in the Regional School District.  Their generous donation is timely and another component of a comprehensive plan to ensure that our students are always safe.”

Dr. Maruszczak  is working on getting two-way radios at Miscoe and Clough. “Right now there are no two-way radios at Miscoe and Clough but there are presently other means of immediate communication with the police.  The district is working with the Mendon Police to address the issue of two-way radios at these two schools as well,” wrote Maruszczak.
