At 3:15 PM on April 11th the Upton Fire and Police departments we were dispatched to a vehicle fire at Prime Gas Station in West Upton Center.
According to Upton Fire Chief Ron Goodale upon arrival they found a small fire burning underneath the car. The fire was more than 50 feet from the gas pump. “There was not any immediate danger to the station or pumps,” said Chief Goodale.
According to the Chief the fire appeared to have been caused by a leaking fuel line that leaked gas onto hot parts of the vehicle’s exhaust system.
Chief Goodale said, “Although the fire was relatively small, it was difficult to extinguish due to the location of the leak under the car. We used a ramp truck to lift up the front of the car to gain access to the fire so we could extinguish it from underneath.”
