Communities deny BVT Expansion

bvtThe proposed $2.9 million dollar expansion at Blackstone Valley Technical High School has now been defeated by five of the thirteen communities; Mendon, Uxbridge, Millbury, Douglas and Sutton.

The proposed expansion plan would have established new programs in Engineering (Mechanical/Civil/Aerospace), Veterinary Assisting, and Legal and Protective Services.

Upton was one of the three communities which voted in favor of the expansion.

Mendon had a second chance to support the expansion in a ballot vote yesterday, but again voted down the proposal. Mendon voters had not supported the expansion during their Annual Town Meeting earlier this month.

Susan Spencer of the T&G was live tweeting the Uxbridge Town Meeting last night and tweeted “Uxbridge votes down Valley Tech debt 81 in favor 131 against.” Spencer also quoted Superintendent Dr. Fitzpatrick as saying, “To us it’s a message, not a defeat,”…. “Goes back to drawing board.”
