Letter: Marty Green understands the issues

letterssubmitted by Joann Duncan

Dear Editor,

I met both Dave Muradian and Marty Green, briefly, while they were working to get their names on the ballot.  However, I knew nothing about their backgrounds or qualifications to be our State Representative for the Ninth Worcester District.   I did my research by reviewing their websites and Facebook pages.  It became immediately obvious to me that the best choice was Marty Green.

Marty has solid work experience both with the Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce (as Economic Development Director and Executive Director) and as a business owner himself.  He understands small business and how to attract new business to an area.

As a former Northbridge Selectman, he understands municipal government.  He gained practical experience in setting and implementing policies.  He understands the challenges we as taxpayers face when trying to fund our towns and schools.  He will work to get more money back into the towns to help fund the “unfunded mandates” from State Government.  Marty had to deal with these issues as a Northbridge Selectman.  We need that experience in our representative on Beacon Hill.

Marty has been an active volunteer in his community for decades.  This is invaluable time spent getting to know people, their concerns, and working through issues.

I feel it is important that our Representatives understand the day-to-day issues we as a town, business, or average citizen face.  Marty understands those issues.  He has served in all those capacities.  Please join me in voting on November 4th and I encourage you to vote for Marty Green.

Respectfully Submitted,

Joann Duncan

  1. I couldnt disagree with more and here’s why!

David Muradian has 7 years of hands on experience working on real issues directly with George Peterson as Peterson’s Director of local affairs. I would say that alone gives David Muradian a huge advantage over Green.

I would also like to point out that George Peterson formally endorsed David Muradian and said, “Mr. Muradian has an excellent understanding of the issues facing the Ninth Worcester District I have the utmost confidence that David would be a staunch advocate for the District, and will bring unique and ambitious ideas to the table which ensure a promising future for the towns of Grafton, Northbridge, and Upton.”

Given Peterson’s no nonsense approach, work ethic and how he honorably served his district for 20 years, I highly doubt he would give an endorsement to someone that he knew was not up for the job or lacked experience.

Were you aware that when asked if Green would give up his business to dedicate all his time and energy to his position as state representative he said No! Does it even bother you that Green doesn’t even plan on being a full time state representative?

I would also like to bring up Green’s time as the Economic and Executive Director of Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce for nine years. Has anybody even bother to investigate the financial state of the chamber during his tenure or the fact that the board of directors asked him to step down because he was in over his head?

The state representative position has a number of important duties including improving our local economy, setting state spending priorities, and working with State leaders to create policy.

Since Massachusetts is controlled by an 82% majority of democrats I am interested to know why you think sending another democrat (Green) to Beacon Hill is a good idea. Many of the issues we face throughout the commonwealth including the towns of Grafton, Northbridge & Upton are a direct result of failed democratic policies and regulations and their veto proof super majority.

We don’t need another democrat on Becon Hill we need an independent voice and someone who not only knows how to be bipartisan but has to do so on a regular basis in order to get anything accomplished on Beacon Hill which again is made up of 82% democrats.

We need to put an end to the one party super majority in Massachusetts and let Marty continue being an upstanding citizen in the private sector.
