When no one filed papers to run for the one year open school committee seat in Upton, resident Dorothy Scally stepped up and ran as a write-in candidate. At the annual election held earlier this week Scally received the most write-in votes and was offered and accepted the position.
According to a press release, Scally and her husband moved to Upton two years ago and have a student at Miscoe Hill. She works as a Special Education Team Chair in Somerville Public Schools and has more than 20 years of teaching, management, and social service experience.
Scally said if elected she would be committed to representing parents, staff, and community members as a voice for providing students with the best school system the district can provide while being fiscally responsible.
